...to the home for the British independent film production company Coffee Films.
Established as a short film collective playing with camcorders in 1996, Coffee Films incorporated in 2003 and within a year was recognised as one of Europe's leading young production companies. Progressing to documentaries on music and wildlife we gained critical acclaim for the film Last of the Scottish Wildcats as only the second company to film Britain's rarest mammal.
Well into our second decade we're currently producing a slate of exciting feature length projects including The Death and Resurrection Show on the influential post-punk/industrial band Killing Joke, Oday a drama on hacking, hacktivism and a world of whistleblowers, more wildlife projects and a slate of drama/thriller movies. We're looking forward to continuing to create outstanding independent films for another ten years, still motivated by the words of Francis Ford Coppola that set us on our way;
"One day some little fat girl in Ohio is gonna be the new Mozart, and make a beautiful film with her little father's camera corder and for once the so called professionalism about movies will be destroyed, forever, and it will really become an artform."
We've tried to keep it in mind. Enjoy your stay.
LATEST NEWSMAY 5TH 2016
SPRING 2016It's been a Groundhog Day sort of decade mostly filled with Killing Joke, Scottish wildcats and a lot of script development, but with worldwide theatrical, DVD and TV/VOD releases of The Death and Resurrection Show all signed off, we're finally into pre-production and rehearsals for our first new film in years, with two more features on the slate and a packed schedule of short form music based projects...
0DAY: DRAMA FEATURE FILM0day is a micro-budget feature project easing us back into fiction filmmaking, with a nevertheless fact based drama/thriller exploration of the post-Snowden world of hacking, Internet privacy and mass surveillance. The film is also a return to fiction directing for producer Steve Piper, 12 years on from being awarded as one of Europe's most exciting emerging directors. Currently deep into rehearsals and pre-production for shooting over summer, the film features a soundtrack from long term collaborators Sound Sanctuary and Burning Shapes.

CARDS: DRAMA/THRILLER FEATURE FILMCards began life over 15 years ago, developed in the earliest days of Coffee Films when it was still just a collective of friends trying to make zero budget shorts and features. The story follows a group of four bored and directionless young friends who begin playing a game of psychological fate which rapidly spirals out of control. Considerably over-ambitious for teenagers with no budget, the script was resurrected in 2014 and has been slowly simmering through script development ever since, it moves into early pre-production in Autumn.
KILLING JOKE MUSIC DOCUMENTARYThe Death and Resurrection Show, a feature length music documentary on the legendary British post-punk band Killing Joke has been eagerly awaited for far too long whilst we slogged through the complex mire of archive rights clearances, but it's finally, after 12 years of production, making its way to variety of screens after a sold out special screening at BFI Southbank and a bunch of film festivals. Currently available for pre-order on DVD direct from Coffee/ILC and coming soon to AMC/Sundance thanks to our wonderful sales agents KWA.
YOUNG THUGS RECORDS: MUSIC SHORTSYoung Thugs Records are a newly established label based in York, exploring a fresh approach to the concept with signings including emerging independent talent and chaotic collaborations between a range of bands, musicians and producers, working to a web-based pay-what-you-want business model. Coffee are providing a creative visual aspect documenting the process, recording live music sessions and putting together release music videos side by side with the music.

WILDLIFE DOCUMENTARIESLast of the Scottish Wildcats is still available on DVD from ourselves and all good retailers, and has developed quite a legacy over the last few years, inspiring substantial grant support for the species from funders in the US which has lead to an amazing fieldwork project called Wildcat Haven which has made about 800 square miles of the West Highlands threat-free for them. We're currently looking at a follow up to the wildcat film alongside Wildcat Haven, as well as documentaries on other small cats alongside conservationists doing really interesting things to save them, including Eurasian lynx, Andean mountain cat, fishing cat and Pallas cat.
SHORT FILMS AND MUSIC VIDEOSAlthough a bit of a rarity these days we still fiddle with the occasional short film or music video, currently we're supporting production of The Journey, a new short from our friends at Crestfallen, after doing a few pick up shots earlier this year we're finally finishing off the often shelved Dealer project, a crossover no budget analogue/digital mini-feature we'll find something to do with shortly, and we're just starting to play around with an interesting music/film/web multimedia crossover project with some old friends that should start emerging late this year.
